This lioness, spotted in Botswana, was desperately trying to get comfortable. She was very heavily pregnant and may have been due to give birth to her cubs that night. She was away from the pride, and had found a safe den in which to give birth.

This is a portrait of Caesar, one of the 5 sons of the famous Notch, of the Mara (as in the BBC’s Big Cat Diary program). I was lucky enough to see him and his brother, Notch 2 on a safari in the Mara a few years ago.
